12th-Grade Program - CIT

Our Counselor-in-Training Program (CIT) is open for incoming 12th graders. Participants learn what it takes to be a top counselor at CYJ through hands-on practice and training sessions. Each CIT will be assigned to a cabin where they act as Jewish role models for the campers of that cabin and help run activities for campers throughout the day. Often, the CIT's are some of the campers' favorite people in the cabin because campers can look up to them as if they were counselors while also being able to relate to them a little more because they are close in age. CITs have an opportunity to once again be at the camp they love for the summer and to give back to their home away from home, CYJ.

While CIT's help build strong cabin cultures and help make our camper's summer special, they are not expected to accomplish this alone. CITs will observe the experienced counselors in their cabin and receive guidance from these camp veterans daily. They also will have advisors who will help ensure that the CITs receive proper training and are supported daily while at camp.

CIT's can expect to come out of our program with the skills it takes to be successful counselors and various leadership skills that translate well into the real world. CITs will take part in programming that prepares them for success during their senior year, in college, and that prepares them for the other life changes that are soon to come. 

Despite being a very beneficial program that prides itself on growing our participants, the CIT program is sure to be a fun experience—the CITs bond with one another through special activities dedicated just to them. Not only are there fun activities every day, but the CITs stay in the Teen Village, where they have the time every evening to bond and grow closer to one another. Each week, the CITs also leave camp for a surprise outing, where they get to do some of the exciting things nearby Texas cities offer!
