Serve on a Committee

Committees are where a lot of the hands-on work happens: programming ideas, event planning, fundraising pushes, and more. If you've got a skill or a passion that could help camp, there's likely a committee for you. Reach out to our office to find out what's currently active and where we could use your expertise best.

Serve on the Board

Like any voluntary organization, CYJ-Texas depends on a committed Board of Directors to serve as partners with our dedicated professional staff. A high-quality Board means greater success in all of camp's pursuits. We’d love for you to share your talents to help make camp better for everyone.

What the Board does: The Board provides governance, financial oversight, and strategic direction. It defines camp's mission, hires and evaluates the Executive Director, ensures financial stability, and protects the organization legally while leaving day-to-day camp operations to the professional staff.

Board member responsibilities:

  • Understand and define the mission, purpose, and goals of CYJ-Texas

  • Engage in planning and policy-setting to ensure camp's mission and goals are realized

  • Attend quarterly Board meetings (typically two at camp, two virtual)

  • Act as an ambassador in your community, championing the value of Jewish camps and elevating CYJ-Texas's name

  • Attend CYJ-Texas events, parlor meetings, and other programs whenever possible

  • Support the Executive Director and work with the Board to assess performance

  • Ensure legal and ethical integrity, and assume fiduciary responsibility for CYJ-Texas

  • Identify like-minded people who care about Israel and the Jewish future, and invite them to support CYJ financially, lend their expertise, or serve on the Board.

Be a Parent Ambassador

Parent Ambassadors are the friendly, familiar faces who help other families feel confident about choosing CYJ by sharing your own camp experience, answering questions from prospective families, and helping spread the word in your community. If you love camp and love talking about it (and let's be honest, most CYJ parents do), this is a natural fit.
